On September 27, 2014, Dimitri Roussopoulos from Montréal, Canada, held one of the keynote lectures at the Ecological Challenges conference in Oslo, Norway. New Compass co-organized this conference with the Department of Sociology and Human Geography at the University of Oslo.

Dimitri Roussopoulos is an author, editor and activist with over fifty years of experience from various social movements. Currently he is president of the Taskforce on Municipal Democracy of the City of Montreal.

In this talk Roussopoulos critizes the current state management of the climate crisis and broader ecological questions, and he calls for far-reaching political and economic changes. He goes on to sketch the social ecology alternative, the importance of the city as the locus of activism, and his own experiences with putting social ecology into practice in his home-city Montréal.
