Political action in the modern city

06.05.2014

Last month social ecologist, activist, writer and publisher Dimitrios Roussopoulos spoke about "Neo-anarchism, libertarian municipalism and political action in the modern city" at the Micropolis social space for freedom by the Festival of Direct Democracy in Greece. Roussopoulos, following Bookchin, urges the grassroots anti-hierarchical movements to go beyond street protests and connect to the public realm in neighbourhoods, local communities, and workplaces, and to participate in municipal elections with the aim to decentralize and radically democratize municipal power and to move power downwards from the state to the municipalities.

You can listen to a recording of the speech here. After a short introduction in Greek by Teveo Teo, Roussopoulos starts around min. 5. (English with Greek consecutive translation).
